About Me

I am the proud mother of 6 children. 5 of our children have autism. We do not feel our world has ended, but just begun. We do not chelate, intervene biochemically, give shots of any kind, practice ABA, etc. We treat them as we treat any humanbeing. We treat them with kindness and respect and expect the same from them. They are exceptional children.

STRAIT TO THE POINT....

You will get the title in a minute...

This is a new year...2008...Little Patrick just turned 8 years old, a little boy who was
given a 10% chance of survival the first 3 months in my womb....he was born a wopping
9 lbs 4 oz...
Meaghan will be 10 this year..double digits is a big deal for her. She is the best sister a
kid could ask for and she is the biggest Diva I have ever met. With the loss of Boey last week,
I cherish all my kids even more.
Caitlin will be 17 next month..I cannot even imagine this. I still remember her being born.
She was stunningly beautiful and has remained that way. She has recently gone through a
transition that blows me out of the water. Caitlin is missing her old friends and cherishing
her new ones. She is attaching to people, even though doctors and specialists told us she
would never do so.
Erin is 11 now and making more friends than ever.
Deirdre is as social as any other 13 year old who thinks her mother is as "dumb as a stump".
I like Deirdre...she is funny. She brings me back down to reality, so to speak.
Then there is Kiernan....he is running me ragged. He is keeping me up on my toes and
to the point of exhaustion. But, I know this is a phase. I went through this with Caitlin,
Erin, and Patrick.
Patrick is helping me when he gets home from work and I cannot wait for school to start
next week....I need a nap.
I have nursed 5 children from the brink of death during Christmas break...okay, that is
an exaggeration...just bronchitis...

Now, MY POINT.....

My favorite singer in the world, the great GEORGE STRAIT, is performing live...in the
round...at the Irwin Center in Austin this week.....and guess what???
I am attending. I am thrilled beyond words.
The tickets were a gift from someone who knows how precious George is to me.
I thank them for that.
George got me through college, NYC, and the rest of my existence.
He makes me smile when I hear him sing.
My daughter Deirdre asked me if I know the words to all of his songs.....
Undeniably YES....without a doubt..every last solitary song.

So, with all the hubbub of Autism...with all the bickering going on the
Autism forums....with all the name-calling, back-stabbing, bologna that
occurs in the world of Autism....I get out a George Strait CD and I am in
my own little happy world.

I don't have time for the squabbling, I have children to raise.
I do not need to out do, out shine, out -bicker, or out Hate anyone.

I wish everyone well in their endeavors to find peace with whatever they
call "Autism"....I know what it is in our home....you need to decide what it is
in yours....

I envy you.

If you want, we can call each other names.

I love George's type of music. Country music has really gone to hell but George keeps the tradition alive.

Enjoy.

BWH,
The only word I name I can think of to call you is....
GENTLEMAN.
You seem to define that.

George admittingly does not write his own songs, but man, can he sing them.
I used to see him free in college and got the beer for a nickel...those were the days.
I really think he owes me alot....missed classes, hangovers, unrequited love, etc.

Hope you are well...

13 year old who thinks her mother's an idiot? Wow, you must be the first!

I went to 'hell' and saw Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw in Philly a while back, it was a nice day out, enjoy yours...

George Strait is awesome!

He was my first favorite singer as a kid. I could identify some of his songs by name in just a note or two by age 5 (one of them, I had never heard before!).

I've moved on to pop and rock and even admittedly enjoy some "pop-country" artists like Keith Urban and Brad Paisley. But George Strait will always be remembered as the guy who got me into music in the first place.

I've had the chance to see him in concert three times (all via free tickets, as ticket prices are way too costly these days), only to actually do it once.

First time, one of my grandparents died a few days before the show so I had to go back to Kentucky.

Second time, I actually went, but it started raining and it never stopped so we left early :(

Third time, I was with just my mom. We got to hear about 4 or 5 songs before we left. We both got sleepy :(

Enjoy the show. But I know you will :)

Wel, shoot. I am guessing that you will be taking Mr. O'Donnell as your date, eh?
If he begs off, I am always up for a road trip!
Have a great time. You deserve it!

I got at your blog by Boey's one (so sad she passed away).
Anyway, even not knowing anyone with autism so close to me, or not even being in contact with this disease in any sort of way, it made me realize what a great "mom-job" you've been doing. Nothing better than such a nice environment for any kid, with disorder or not.
You certainly made me spend the last hour reading your stories.
I know you hear this all the time, but congratulations on the great family you have!
;o)

Girl You gotta blog!

Let me introduce my self to your blogging buds. I'm Vicki, Ja nd I went to school together back in the olden days,we loved Michael Jackson way before there was a Mr Strait. We had friendship rings, mine is still here somewhere.
J is an awsome person, she hasn't changed since the day we met, I think I was 11!!
Speaking of George, do you remember Benny McArthur, he played with Jess Demain. Scott got to play with with Benny on New years eve, I just about had a heart attack! I loved this man! He could play and still does, fiddle music I mean. You know he's in Mr. Strait band right? I'm glad you came by today, the blog. Keep coming back. We do need to get together. I know your busy tho...
Love ya. Vick
