About Me

I am the proud mother of 6 children. 5 of our children have autism. We do not feel our world has ended, but just begun. We do not chelate, intervene biochemically, give shots of any kind, practice ABA, etc. We treat them as we treat any humanbeing. We treat them with kindness and respect and expect the same from them. They are exceptional children.

MAKES ME HAPPY....

Kiernan, our 6-year-old ball of energy was bouncing on a ball this evening. I must describe how he bounces on this ball.....it is an exercise ball..he falls back on it and bounces, then he bounces forward. Now, he does this over and over...he does not miss a beat. This activity defies gravity, but Kiernan does it without a hitch. While doing this, Kiernan buzzes like a little bee. He loves doing this. Our 9-year-old, Meaghan, looks at me and says, "Now, doesn't that just make you Happy?".... Indeed it does Meaghan....INDEED IT DOES !!!!!

We have that therapy ball in the living room. Now if I could only keep the older three off it! ND/NT...all 5 love it. Heck, I'D probably like it if I weren't afraid it would explode under the weight!

I love your attitude. I am the mother of a just turned 5-year old autistic boy. I love him and don't mind his autism, but his non-talking is really making me sad. I am not afraid of autism (have many autistic traits myself) but I'm just scared that he will never talk. He has just started saying No, DaDa, and Up at the appropriate time, but rarely. He is smart, social, and very good-natured (rarely gets upset). He makes good eye-contact and has just started showing us that he undrstands everything we say this past year. I read that your daughter talked very late. I'm afraid that if he doesn't talk by age 6, that it won't happen. He's too cool of a person for me not to be able to communicate with. he is in a model autism school and I have been fighting, and fighting, and fighting to get his therapy back (he had it from age 2-4) and it looks like I will get it back. Advice? What advice can you give me? Please! Don't want to cure him, embrace his autism, but want to hear him talk- just a little when he wants to, but want to know that he can/will.
Linda (lindanail84@hotmail.com) I almost have your great attitude. If my guy was talking, autism and all, I'd be tap dancing on the roof with joy.

Hey there SuperMama!! I am back after not blogging for oh, 8 months. I'm not only back, but back with more zest than before. I changed my blog name ("Me By The Sea" to "Stop.Think.Autism"). I've not read any entries for most of this time either, so I will have to get on with that.

Can't remember if I commented to you on the show--but if I didn't--wow!! I am so happy for you all, it was such a cool show to watch. Love the house & all they were able to do for you guys. I still have it saved on my DVR.

Great pictures, so cute! We have one big ball like that one, plus a smaller yellow, & then there's the Rodi horse too (not to mention the rocking horse!)...we are a sensory fest here!! LOL! My daughter also prefers to go au natural!!

Looking forward to reading more entries as you write them!
