It's been a long road; it will continue to be a long road. But the thing we've done with him from the beginning is love him as is. I get discouraged sometimes when he has socialization issues, or has a behavior day, but he's such a beautiful, sunny person! All three of my kids are a gift indeed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32355297.post-54140924765124430872007-10-18T16:26:00.000-05:002007-10-18T16:26:00.000-05:00Hi Bill, With our oldest, who will be 17 in Febru...Hi Bill,
With our oldest, who will be 17 in February, we tried everything available to us at that time to try to get her to be un-autistic. We were told there was no cure, so we did not search for one.
It was when we realized she was not unhealthy or unhappy, that we eased up a bit.
She still has many therapies, but they are to help her become a functioning adult.
With our youngest, who is 6, we have tried to keep him safe. He is extremely hyperactive and very autistic. He is healthy, but so energetic.
We continue the many therapies on all of our children and we have been surprised by all that they have accomplished....some more than others.
I have friends with "normal" children and they are going through Rehab with a 15-year old....now that is scary.
I hope all is well with your family.
JeanetteMom26childrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13218226918121229676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32355297.post-14117200596287739812007-10-18T15:41:00.000-05:002007-10-18T15:41:00.000-05:00"I'm always curious as to what would happen with o..."I'm always curious as to what would happen with our young autistics if we would just relax, work with them a reasonable amount, and see what strides they make without "heroic" (and expensive) alternative treatments."

Even 'traditional' therapies come, most times, at a 'heroic' prce tag.
